Peptide Side Effects
What the research literature reports about known side effects by peptide category.
Common Side Effects
The side effects most commonly reported in the literature include:
- •Local injection site reactions (redness, swelling)
- •Nausea — especially with GLP-1 agonists
- •Headache — reported with GHRP/GHRH peptides
- •Fatigue & dizziness — usually transient
- •Appetite changes
Side Effects by Category
GLP-1 Agonists
Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, diarrhea, constipation) are reported in clinical trials as the most common. Intensity typically decreases with gradual dose titration.
GHRP/GHRH Peptides
Water retention, extremity numbness, increased appetite (especially GHRP-6). These are related to increased growth hormone levels.
Healing Peptides
BPC-157 and TB-500 generally show favorable safety profiles in preclinical data. However, clinical data in humans remains limited.
Nootropic Peptides
Semax and Selank are considered well-tolerated in Russian literature, but Western clinical data remains incomplete.
Serious Warnings
Some peptides carry significant warnings in the literature:
- ⚠Melanotan-II: risk of mole changes — dermatological monitoring required
- ⚠HCG/Gonadorelin: hormonal changes — medical supervision required
- ⚠Tirzepatide/Semaglutide: rare but serious GI complications (e.g. pancreatitis — FDA boxed warning)
- ⚠IGF-1 LR3: theoretical risk of cellular hyperplasia
Risk Reduction
The research literature indicates that gradual dose titration, use of certified sources, proper storage, and medical monitoring are the key principles of risk reduction.
